O' Daughter Of Zion...

The Blessed Virgin Mary in the Bible, Part II.

Many insist that the Mother of GOD was not mentioned in the Old Testament. On the contrary, she is prefigured throughout Holy Scripture. Please read part one of this two part series, 'The Blessed Virgin Mary in the Bible'.

The Blessed Virgin is the 'Daughter of Zion'. She is mentioned in this title, many times in the Old Testament.

The Blessed Virgin Mary is a "Type" of the Catholic Church, and in so being, these verses could apply to the Church as well.

Zechariah 9:9...
"Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout for joy O Daughter of Jerusalem! BEHOLD THY KING will come to thee, the just and savior: He is poor, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass."

Zechariah 2:10...
"Sing praise, and rejoice, O Daughter of Zion, for behold I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the Lord."

Micah 4:8...
"And thou O cloudy tower of the flock of the Daughter of Zion, unto thee it shall come: yea, the first power shall come, the Kingdom to the Daughter of Jerusalem."

Micah 4:10...
"Be in pain and labor, O Daughter of Zion, as a woman that bringeth forth; for now shalt thou go out of the city and shall dwelt in the country, and thou shalt come even to Babylon: there shalt thou be delivered, there the Lord will redeem thee out of the hand of thy enemies."

Isaiah 1:8...
"And the Daughter of Zion shall be left as a covert in a vineyard, and as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, and a city that is laid waste."

Isaiah 16:1...
"Send forth, O Lord, the Lamb, the ruler of the earth, from Petra of the desert, to the mount of the Daughter of Zion."

Isaiah 37:22... and 2Kings 19:21...
This is the word which the Lord hath spoken of him: the virgin the Daughter of Zion hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorn..."

Jeremiah 4:31...
"For I have heard the voice as of a woman in travail, anguishes as of a woman in labor of a child. The voice of the Daughter of Zion, dying away, spreading her hands..."

Jeremiah 6:2...
"I have likened the Daughter of Zion to a beautiful and delicate woman."

Jeremiah 6:23-24...
"They shall take hold on arrow and shield; they are cruel, and will have no mercy. Their voice shall roar like the sea; and they shall mount upon horses, prepared as men for war, against thee, O Daughter of Zion. We have heard the fame thereof, our hands grow feeble. Anguish hath taken hold of us, as a woman in labor."

Jeremiah 8:19...
"Behold the voice of the Daughter of my people from a far country: Is not the Lord in Zion, or is not her King in her?"

Lamentations 2:1...
"How hath the Lord covered with obscurity the Daughter of Zion in His wrath?"

Lamentations 2:13...
"To what shall I compare thee? Or to what shall I liken thee, O Daughter of Jerusalem? To what shall I equal thee, O Virgin Daughter of Zion?"

Lamentations 2:18...
"Their heart cried to the Lord upon the walls of the Daughter of Zion: let tears run down like a torrent day and night; give thyself no rest, and let not the apple of thy eye cease."

Zephaniah 3:14-15...
Give praise, O Daughter of Zion; shout O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all thy heart, O Daughter of Jerusalem! The Lord hath taken away thy judgment, he hath turned away thy enemies; the King of Israel the Lord is in the midst of thee, thou shalt fear evil no more."
